What is the policy of the Texas Legislative Fellowship Program on using AI tools for application materials?
Texas Legislative Fellowship Program - Statement and Policy on AI
Our Values
The Texas Legislative Fellowship Program values authenticity, reflection, and the unique perspectives that applicants bring to public service. These qualities emerge through thoughtful engagement with complex issues and personal experiences. While AI tools can offer convenience, they cannot replace the critical thinking and self-reflection that this process is designed to draw out of applicants.
Privacy and Security
Be aware that using AI tools can introduce privacy and cybersecurity risks, such as exposing sensitive data or receiving inaccurate outputs. Exercise caution and ensure compliance with institutional policies and applicable laws.
Our Policy
Generative AI may not be used to write, complete, or replace any part of your application materials; all essays and responses must be your own work. Limited AI use for editing, grammar, or clarity is permitted, but applicants must disclose this and avoid entering sensitive or confidential information into AI tools.
Can I submit additional letters of recommendation?
Additional letters of recommendation are not accepted and will not be considered as part of a candidate's application.
Can I submit supplemental materials with my application?
In most cases, no. Please submit only the required application materials. However, if there is a specific circumstance that you believe needs context—such as a significant drop in grades due to illness, family emergency, or another serious event—you may include a brief addendum (one page or less) explaining the situation. Please attach this addendum to the personal statement.
Please note: This is not an opportunity to submit additional work samples, publications, portfolios, or other materials beyond what the application requires.
