Program History
In 2023, The University of Texas System piloted a program that brought together students from across the UT System to complete internships at the Texas Capitol in Austin during the 88th Legislative Session. Following the success of this initiative, the UT System Board of Regents approved the creation of the Texas Legislative Fellowship Program in 2024. This decision transformed the pilot into a permanent program designed to support UT System students pursuing state government internships during legislative sessions. The first cohort of fellows completed their program in 2025 during the 89th Legislative Session.

Our Mission
The Texas Legislative Fellowship Program cultivates the next generation of public servants by immersing students in the heart of the legislative process in Texas. Through hands-on experience, academic enrichment, and professional development, fellows gain a deep understanding of policymaking and the values that sustain it including civic responsibility, public service, and community engagement. The program empowers students to become leaders committed to making meaningful contributions to their communities and to public life in Texas and beyond.
