Dr. David Han is a Distinguished Teaching Professor and Romo Endowed Professor at UT San Antonio. He is also affiliated with Honors College, School of Data Science, and multiple research centers including Brain Health Consortium, MATRIX AI Consortium, Cyber Center for Security and Analytics, and Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Lean Systems. Dr. Han received his Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Statistics from McMaster University in Canada, where he was an NSERC scholar, and completed undergraduate studies in Biochemistry and Computer Science, graduating summa cum laude. Dr. Han's teaching and research integrate statistical modeling and inference, data science and analytics across engineering, public health, biomedical, and information systems disciplines. His scholarly interests span reliability and survival analysis, operations research, and AI-driven education. A passionate educator and ACUE Teaching Fellow, Dr. Han is recognized for transforming quantitative instruction through experiential, AI-enhanced, and research-embedded learning experiences that connect statistical reasoning to real-world decision-making. He has mentored numerous undergraduate and graduate students in interdisciplinary research leading to peer-reviewed publications and presentations. His leadership extends to developing inclusive teaching practices and curricular innovations that prepare diverse learners for data-intensive careers, as evidenced by his service as Faculty Advisor to the American Statistical Association Student Chapter. Dr. Han's teaching excellence has been recognized with the E. Lou Curry Teaching Excellence Award, the President's Distinguished Achievement Award, and the U.T. System Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award, among others. A Faculty Fellow of the U.S. DoD (ARL, AFRL, ONR) and member of the UT San Antonio Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars since 2013, Dr. Han exemplifies a teacher-scholar dedicated to advancing student success through innovation, mentorship, and interdisciplinary engagement.
