Welcome to the website of the University of Texas System Academy of Distinguished Teachers. As the only system-wide university teaching academy in the US, the Academy is emblematic of the University of Texas System’s deep commitment to providing high quality, inclusive learning experiences for all students enrolled at its eight academic campuses.
Members of the Academy, whose biographies you will find on these pages, are a diverse group of first-rate scholars, all of whom have excelled as teachers and mentors. My colleagues and I are devoted to fostering the creation of learning experiences that not only increase capacity but also develop habits of thought and behavior that contribute to rewarding and joyful lives.
We recognize and celebrate the great diversity among the 240,000 students enrolled in UT System campuses, and we are committed to assuring that every student receives the supports they need to enjoy a successful and productive university experience. Our entering students vary widely in terms of their backgrounds, experiences, and aspirations for the future. Providing a quality education to all learners requires that we meet students where they are, structure experiences that foster competence and independence, and create welcoming environments that are conducive to human flourishing.
