Paige O. Barnett
Assistant Vice Chancellor & Managing Counsel, General Law Section
Paige O. Barnett is an Assistant Vice Chancellor and the Managing Counsel of the General Law Section. The General Law section advises UT System and UT institutions on a broad range of issues, including faculty and staff employment and benefits matters, student affairs, constitutional questions, torts, risk management, law enforcement and campus safety, Title IX compliance, privacy, public information disclosure requirements, and other federal and state higher education and public agency compliance matters. The General Law section is also the primary liaison to the Office of the Attorney General in matters on which the Attorney General represents UT System and UT institutions in court.
Prior to joining UT System in October 2015, Paige practiced employment law for more than 10 years at the Chicago firm Vedder Price P.C. where she represented a wide range of public- and private-sector employers in a variety of traditional labor and employment law matters. At Vedder Price, Paige litigated civil cases involving federal and state anti-discrimination laws and employment-related torts before federal and state courts and administrative agencies. She also advised clients on day-to-day employment law issues. When Paige returned to her home state of Texas in 2012, she worked as a human resources consultant, conducting internal investigations and employee training.
Paige earned her law degree from Northwestern University School of Law and graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University. Paige is admitted to practice law in Texas and Illinois.
