Dallas Farmers Market Co-op Programs

Community Gardens

Sprouts is a go-to for produce - fruits, veggies, granola, cheese; much smaller and more convenient than at Whole Foods.

UT Dallas Faculty, staff and students are welcome to come to the Farmer’s Market the second Tuesday of every month at the Plinth.  Each market includes an active demonstration incorporating a seasonal food. The featured food is purchased from local vendors or farmers. The campus dietitians are at the event to answer any nutrition related question.

UT Dallas Faculty, staff and students are welcome to become involved in the campus Community Garden. There is also a plot in the garden called Victory Plot, where all the produce that is grown on this plot is donated to a local food bank.

The UT Dallas Dining Services has instituted many programs to help with food sustainability. Love Food Not Waste program is a campaign designed to change common wasteful behaviors in our kitchens, both at work and at home. Trim Tracks, encourages organic waste to be placed in containers which are then added to the compost stations on campus.  That compost is used for beautification projects throughout campus. The Food Recovery Program is a student-operated nonprofit group that comes to campus each evening and gets left overs and transports them to local food shelters and food banks in our community.

Galveston, TX.  Sundays 9-1pm.

In Spring/Summer our farmers markets are filled with fresh fruit such as watermelon, cantaloupe and peaches. Fresh vegetables include squash, new potatoes and fresh black eyed peas.

Cilantro, peppers, onions are in season. I'm growing them all in my backyard :)

A few items that are in season during Spring and Summer are Cucumbers, Bell Pepper, Strawberries, Squash and Tomatoes. A popular website is www.frobergsfarm.com.

East Texas - Houston

Tomatoes and peppers are always available in Summer. Peppers are easy to grow in a container or in your back yard and pests rarely bother them. There are many local farmer's markets and coops in the Houston area where you can obtain fresh fruit and vegetables.

I live in the Montrose neighborhood in Houston and shop at both the Rice University Farmers' Market on Tuesday evenings (which is near MDACC), and at the Urban Harvest Eastside Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings. Plant it Forward also runs a garden near my home, on the St. Thomas University campus, and I shop there on Saturdays. I'm currently enjoying cauliflower, fresh herbs, asparagus, kale, beets and early tomatoes. In addition to the markets, I can find most of what I need in the organic section of my local HEB, with occasional trips to Whole Foods, City Market and Fiesta.

There is a farmers market in Rice Village in Rice Village rain or shine every Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
There is also a farmer's market in Pearland the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 8-noon.

The Clear Lake Shores farmer's market on 2094 has the widest selection of fresh, beautiful, locally produced vegetables and fruit that you can find (at least in League City)

East Texas - Tyler

Farmers markets are everywhere during the spring and summer! We generally get most of our produce there while it is open! Supporting local farmers and growers is most important for us. We always buy local honey as well because of allergies, and it really does help! We also shop at the granary, Natural Grocers, Brookshire’s and Walmart Neighborhood Market because they have the most options for organic produce.

West Texas - Midland

Midland has a great little farmer's market every Saturday during the summer, with an amazing selection of leafy greens and fresh eggs, squash, fruits, etc.
