UT System Chancellor James B. Milliken participated in Google’s Cybersecurity Clinic Grant Announcement in Washington, DC on June 22, 2023. The UT System has a substantial partnership with Google that allows students from UT’s academic institutions to earn skills-based career certifications from Google that give them an advantage against other job seekers when entering the employment market. Google recently launched a new cybersecurity certification that is being offered to UT students and Chancellor Milliken spoke on the importance of this growing industry as part of a press event.
On Monday, June 19, we will commemorate Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Jubilee Day.
Few things are more precious than the freedom to choose one’s own path, to seek the knowledge and work that gives our lives meaning and enriches our communities. Juneteenth marks a turning point in the struggle for freedom here in Texas, and the echoes of that history reverberate across America today, reminding us that freedom is neither easily won nor maintained without careful vigilance, compassion and a continuous push for justice and fair access.
Mr. Chairman, members of the committee, thank you for the opportunity to appear today. I am J.B. Milliken, chancellor of The University of Texas System, the largest in Texas, with 245,000 students from nearly every county in Texas. The UT System is also the largest provider of medical education, accounting for over 60 percent of the state’s medical degrees, as well as serving health care needs with more than 10.6 million patient visits in 2021.
UT System Chancellor James B. Milliken was among the officials to give remarks to commemorate the groundbreaking of UT Tyler’s Medical Education Building on Jan. 23, 2023.
