LUKE SCHWARTZ, Tyler, Texas, was appointed to the U.T. System Board of Regents by Governor Greg Abbott effective June 1, 2025. He will serve as the board’s student regent through May 31, 2026.
Mr. Schwartz is a third-year medical student in the inaugural class at the University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine. He is also pursuing a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Health Care Management. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in nutrition and also holds an Associate of Science in biology from Tyler Junior College.
Prior to attending medical school, Mr. Schwartz served as a medic in the military where he received multiple accolades including the Army Commendation Medal and Humanitarian Service medal. Currently, Mr. Schwartz remains highly active in his community and within U.T. Tyler School of Medicine. He serves as a representative on the U.T. Tyler Curriculum Oversight Committee, an ambassador for the school of medicine, and is a co-founder of multiple student organizations on campus. He is also a member of multiple professional organizations including the Texas Medical Association, the Smith County Medical Association, and the American College of Healthcare Executives. Most importantly, he can often be found volunteering his time at health fairs and free clinics attempting to improve access to healthcare for all East Texans.
Mr. Schwartz currently lives in Tyler, Texas, and enjoys snowboarding, cooking, listening to live music, and spending as much time outdoors as possible in his free time. After graduation, he plans to pursue a residency in Emergency Medicine with a fellowship in critical care.
