ANTHONY JOHN DRAGUN, Midland, Texas, was appointed as Student Regent for the University of Texas System Board of Regents by Governor Greg Abbott for a one-year term beginning June 1, 2024.
Student Regent Dragun is a fourth-year medical student at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He graduated with honors from The University of Texas at Austin with dual degrees in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry. During his time at U. T. Austin, he was involved in several organizations on campus, including as a First-Year Interest Group mentor, an interpreter at the Volunteer Healthcare Clinic, and the Silver Spurs.
He grew up in Midland, Texas, and after graduating from U. T. Austin, Mr. Dragun worked as a reservoir engineer for ExxonMobil in Houston, Texas, before deciding to attend medical school in Dallas.
In medical school, Mr. Dragun has served in numerous leadership and volunteer roles, including the Texas Medical Association student group, Hoops for Health, United to Serve, and as a tutor for first-year medical students. He has published several scientific papers on the topics of traumatic brain injury, facial paralysis, and enhancing surgical outcomes. Outside of school, Mr. Dragun enjoys running, skiing, reading, and playing the piano.
