Being an effective educator requires significant inner drive to learn educational material extremely well. Teaching has been my biggest incentive for staying current in my field(s) of medical practice.

Dr. Mercado received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) at Galveston. She subsequently completed an Internal Medicine residency, Pulmonary and Geriatric Medicine fellowships at UTMB and joined the faculty in 1998.
