An effective teacher is one who helps students develop skills that they need to achieve their career and personal goals.
My passion is teaching at the graduate level, the centerpiece of which is a mentor-student interaction that is nearly unique in education. Helping guide students as they grow into independent scientists, developing the skills to define important problems and the tools with which to solve them, is extremely rewarding, as is connecting them to the culture and history of science, which empowers them to become the next generation of leaders in research and education.
