I think it is more important for students to grow into problem solvers and critical thinkers than it is for them to be able to regurgitate facts.
Core to my teaching philosophy is that connecting with students is essential to engaging them, and I adhere to this philosophy both in one-on-one interactions with students and with the conversational style I strive for in the classroom. When teaching technical courses, I think it is more important for the students to grow into problem solvers and critical thinkers than it is for them to be able to regurgitate facts; therefore, I ensure that my students observe the process of applying the course material and feel comfortable asking (and ultimately seeking answers to) open-ended questions.
