Know Your Benefits


The first of September is an important date when it comes to your UT Benefits. Any new insurance coverage you elected during the recent Annual Enrollment (AE) period becomes effective on September 1, so you can begin to use your new benefits on this date.*  Also, if you added a dependent to your coverage during AE, their coverage is active as of that date as well.** 


With the exception of retirees enrolled in the UT SELECT Part D prescription drug plan, all annual deductibles (medical, prescription, and dental) are reset effective September 1, 2018. This means that your out-of-pocket expenses for prescription medications and certain services may be higher than the copayment or coinsurance amount you paid for your last refill or service. Once the deductible for the 2018-2019 plan year has been met, the usual copayments and coinsurance amounts will apply.

In addition, the annual out-of-pocket maximums for individuals and families (medical), and any annual maximums on benefits (dental and vision) will also reset. And finally, if you are a UT FLEX Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA) participant, your entire 2018-2019 plan year annual election is available for utilization on September 1, 2018.

* Coverage that required Evidence of Insurability (EOI) is subject to approval and may not become effective on September 1 if EOI has not been completed and approved.
** Coverage for any dependents added to your UT Benefits coverage for the first time is subject to approval and may not become effective on September 1 if you have not provided Evidence of Eligibility (EOE) to your institution’s HR or Benefits Office.
