UT System Regents to meet Nov. 9-10

AUSTIN — The University of Texas System Board of Regents will meet Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 9-10, in Austin. The meeting will be held on the ninth floor of Ashbel Smith Hall, 201 W. 7th St.

The agenda book and links to the live webcast for the meeting are posted online. Parking for news media is available at the guard kiosk on Colorado Street between 6th and 7th streets.

The meeting will be live tweeted from @utsystem.

Below are highlights from the Board agenda. All times are approximate and more information about these items as well as additional agenda items can be found in the agenda book:

Wednesday, Nov. 9

9 a.m. – Health Affairs Committee

  • Report on the development of a clinical service line approach to health care by UT MD Anderson Cancer Center President Ronald DePinho and UT Health Science Center at San Antonio President William Henrich.

9:45 a.m. – Academic Affairs Committee

  • Report and discussion on student success, degree attainment and enrollment levels by UT Austin President Gregory Fenves.

10:15 a.m. – Technology Transfer and Research Committee  

  • Report on the activities and progress of Alafair Biosciences, Inc., a UT Horizon Fund portfolio company.

10:45 a.m. – Audit, Compliance and Management Review Committee

11:45 a.m. – Executive session

 1:15 p.m. – Meeting of the Board in open session

  • Presentation by UT Rio Grande Valley President Guy Bailey on the strategic vision and priorities for the University.  
  • Annual meeting with representatives of the UT System Employee Advisory Council.

2:15 p.m. – Finance and Planning Committee 

  • Request for budget authority to reprioritize funds previously appropriated and allocate them in support of Quantum Leaps initiatives. (Consent agenda)
  • Presentation of the University of Texas Investment Management Company’s performance summary report and investment reports for the year and quarter ended Aug. 31, 2016.

4:30 p.m. – Recess

Thursday, Nov. 10

8:30 a.m. – Meeting of the Board in open session

  • Presentation of a certification of appreciation to UT Tyler President Rodney Mabry.
  • Report on the American Leadership Program, Enhancing Fairness and Opportunity, and Enhancing Student Success strategic Quantum Leaps initiatives.
  • Update on Systemwide after-hours mental health crisis line and bystander intervention initiative and the alcohol, education, intervention and recovery programs.

10:30 a.m. – Executive session

  • Discussion and appropriate action regarding the lease of approximately 1.75 acres of improved land bounded by West 6th, West 7th, Colorado and Lavaca streets.
  • Discussion and appropriate action on the consideration of the appointment of Michael Tidwell as president of UT Tyler.

1:30 p.m. – Meeting of the Board in open session

2 p.m. – Adjourn
