The University of Texas System (the “System”) is one of the largest and most comprehensive institutions of higher education in the country, as well as one of the largest employers in Texas. The System’s eight general academic campuses educate one‐third of Texas’ public university students and its six healthrelated campuses educate two‐thirds of the health professional students attending Texas’ public healthrelated institutions of higher education.

As part of the U.S. Army’s most significant reorganization since 1973, the Pentagon has selected Austin as its new base to partner closely with the best of academia, research and private sector innovation, and in doing so, also selected The University of Texas System as the headquarters for its Army Futures Command.

The University of Texas System Board of Regents Wednesday voted unanimously to bestow its highest honor – the Santa Rita Award – to Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long of Austin.

Mark L. Daniels is a Clinical Professor of Mathematics and the UTeach Program in Natural Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to being the Associate Director of the UTeach Program in Natural Sciences, he is an Assistant Chair in the Mathematics Department. He has developed the curriculum for and teaches multiple inquiry-based mathematics courses, some specifically designed for pre-service teachers.

Erika Bsumek earned her BA from the University of Utah and her Ph.D. from Rutgers University. She has been teaching at UT Austin since 2002. She writes and teaches on Native American history, environmental history/studies, the history of the built environment, and the history of the U.S. West.
