UT System and its institutions recognized for best practices in advancement and development
AUSTIN – The University of Texas System and several UT institutions recently were recognized by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Southwest Region, for exemplary work performed by advancement professionals in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing and allied areas.
Of the 239 awards presented, 65 went to UT institutions; of those, more than one-third were gold, the top honor for the CASE Accolades competition. The CASE Southwest Region represents 261 universities in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
“It is gratifying to know that across the UT System, creativity and dedication are in abundance, and that those talents are devoted to such noble purposes as advancing education, research and health care,” said Randa Safady, Ph.D., UT System vice chancellor for External Relations. “The work our professionals do in advancement is vitally important to support the extraordinary work of our faculty, scientists and clinicians.”
The UT System received two gold awards in CASE’s first-ever Platinum category, which recognizes best practices throughout the advancement profession worldwide.
One of its first place awards, in the Best Practices in Alumni Relations category, honored the concept of The Chancellor’s Council of the UT System. The Chancellor’s Council is unique in that it recognizes donors for their generosity to individual UT institutions, the UT System or both. It also gives the UT System a platform for the chancellor to share with donors the many great innovations and achievements at each of the 15 UT institutions across the state, Safady said.
The System’s other first place award, in the Best Practices in Advancement Services category, acknowledged the UT System’s commitment to support the 900 advancement professionals that work at UT’s 15 institutions. The UT System Board of Regents provided funds in August 2014 to launch an Advancement Academy and Talent Management program, which is considered to be the first system-led program of its kind in the nation. This innovative action follows the Board’s commitment in 2008 to establish the Center for Enhancing Philanthropy, another first.
Two other UT institutions – UT San Antonio and UT Dallas – also received gold awards in the Platinum category in the areas of alumni relations and marketing and branding, respectively. In addition, six UT institutions won gold, silver, bronze and honorable mention recognition in the 2015 CASE Accolades Awards.
“Day in and day out, our development professionals play such an integral role in the success of each of our institutions,” Chancellor William R. McRaven said. “Many of our institutions are seeing steady increases in giving, and it’s in large part because of the efforts of our development teams. This recognition of their dedication and talents is well-deserved.”
