Board of Regents to Meet in Austin Feb. 12-13

The Board of Regents of The University of Texas System will meet Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 12-13, in Austin. The meetings on both days will be on the 9th Floor of Ashbel Smith Hall, 201 W. 7th Street.

Wednesday, Feb. 12

The agenda on Wednesday includes the annual meeting of the board with the System-wide Employee Advisory Council, beginning at 1 p.m.

Also, on Wednesday, the board will hold an executive session, beginning at approximately 2:30 p.m., to discuss personnel, real estate, and legal matters. Any action required on those matters will be taken in public at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 13

The open session on Thursday will begin at 8:30 a.m. The agenda includes:

  • Discussion of legislative issues, including the Texas Compact, a proposed tuition assistance plan. A discussion document on this plan is available on the U.T. System website at www.utsystem.edu/news/2003/TexasCompactDraft02-05-03.pdf.
  • Approval of carriers for disability and dental insurance for fiscal year 2004.
  • Sale of property in Galveston County belonging to the art museum at U.T. Austin.
  • Initial approval of student housing projects at U.T. Tyler.
  • Approval of design development plans for a chemistry and physics building at U.T. Arlington; a day care center at U.T. Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas; student apartments at U.T. Southwestern; expansion of research facilities at the U.T. Medical Branch at Galveston; and a molecular medicine research building at the U.T. Health Science Center at Houston.

Parking for the news media will be available at the guard kiosk on Colorado Street between 7th Street and 6th Street.
