The Office of Educational System Alignment is responsible for the implementation of the K-16 program, including the "Every Child, Every Advantage" initiative. The office is also responsible for initiating a variety of collaborative efforts with other universities, community colleges, public schools, and state agencies, and is responsible for overseeing the UT TeleCampus, the web-based distance learning program which serves the component institutions of the UT System.
Every Child, Every Advantage At the end of 2001, Congress passed an historic piece of education reform legislation, the "No Child Left Behind Act of 2001." This law represents a major shift in federal policy in K-12 education, and requires all states to set high standards for student achievement; measure whether the achievement goals are being met; and provide annual report cards to parents regarding the overall quality of the school their child attends as well as their child's progress in reading, math and science.
Texas has already succeeded in initially implementing many aspects of the act. In keeping with this act's requirements, and with the long-range plan of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, "Closing the Gaps, By 2015," The University of Texas System has initiated a major expansion of programs to assist teachers and students in the public schools. This System initiative, "Every Child, Every Advantage" is a series of plans and programs to meet these collective goals.
