    Pre-Match Offers

    1. To accept and/or decline your pre-match offers, you must log in to the application. Once you are logged in, click on the [Accept/Decline Pre-Match Offers] button.
    2. Prior to the match, medical schools may extend offers of acceptance to Texas residents for a period between November 15 and December 31.
      • Applicants may accept offers from more than one medical school during the pre-match offer period without the risk of an offer being withdrawn by a medical school during the pre-match offer period.
      • If an applicant receives more than one offer and is absolutely sure that he/she will not attend one of the schools, the applicant, out of courtesy to the school, should release the position so the school can extend the offer to another deserving applicant.
    3. An applicant may hold multiple pre-match offers from TMDSAS schools until January 15. All but one pre-match offer must be declined by January 15.
      • These actions will be submitted online to TMDSAS where they will be monitored to assure compliance with the January 15 deadline.
      • The purpose of this action is to monitor multiple acceptances and to establish a date certain so the medical schools may know the remaining number of positions needed to fill their classes through the match process.
    4. Offers of acceptance should only be considered valid if an acceptance letter is received. Verbal offers of acceptance or ranking are not binding to either the applicant or medical schools.

    Match Process

The regular match will be conducted on February 1 to confirm the pre-match offers applicants are holding and to fill the remaining slots for the medical schools. Individual match results will be posted on the TMDSAS application at 8:00 AM (CST) February 1.

To enter your match preferences, you must log in to the application. Once you are logged in, click on the [Update your Match Preferences] button.

    • The deadline for applicants to submit their match preferences online is January 15.
    • Applicants not holding a pre-match offer will submit a preference list ranking all schools where they interviewed.
    • Applicants holding a pre-match offer who have interviewed at school(s) that did not extend an offer may submit a match preference list ranking one or more of those schools higher than the pre-match offer school without risk of losing the pre-match offer.
    • Applicants holding a pre-match offer following the Accept/Decline process must submit preferences for all schools listed on the School Preference screen.  The same is true for applicants who received only one pre-match offer which they accepted.
    • An applicant holding a pre-match offer who matches to a school he/she ranked higher than the pre-match offer school will automatically be withdrawn from the pre-match offer school and all other lower ranked schools. The applicant continues to remain open to be selected by schools he/she ranked higher.
    • Following the match, the standard rolling admissions will continue through the beginning of orientation at each medical school.

    How to View Match Results:

To view your match results, log in to the application.  Once you are logged in, click on the [View Match Results] button.   If you matched to a school, the school name will be listed.

If you did not match to a school, keep in mind that the standard rolling admissions will begin after the match process and continue through the beginning of orientation at each medical school.  You will be contacted directly by a medical school if you are moved to their alternate list or made an offer after the match process.

    Multiple Acceptances

With the exception of offers received during the pre-match period, only the most unusual of circumstances justify an applicant’s holding a place in the entering class of more than one US school for more than two weeks since this may adversely affect other applicants. The schools; therefore, reserve the right to withdraw offers of acceptance to individuals who hold places for longer periods without specific authorization from the schools involved. Applicants may withdraw active applications from any school any time during the application period.

Applicants may hold offers from one of the TMDSAS medical schools as well as other non-TMDSAS schools such as Baylor College of Medicine. By May 15 of the matriculation year (April 15 for schools whose first day of class is on or before July 30), each applicant who has received an offer of acceptance from more than one school must choose the specific school at which the applicant prefers to enroll and withdraw his or her application from all other schools from which acceptance offers have been received.

After June 15, no medical school in Texas may offer a position to an applicant already accepted by another medical school in Texas. This is the result of an agreement between the four UT System Medical schools, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, and University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth College of Osteopathic Medicine.

    MD/PhD and DO/PhD Acceptances

    • UT School of Medicine at San Antonio, Texas Tech Health Sciences Center and UNT-Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine may begin issuing offers of acceptance into their combined
    • MD/PhD or DO/PhD program on October 15.
An MD/PhD or DO/PhD applicant who receives offers of admission from more than one participating school must choose the one school that he/she prefers, and withdraw from the other school(s) in accordance with the terms of the acceptance.
    • Applicants to the combined MD/PhD and/or DO/PhD programs, who have not received a joint degree program offer of acceptance by January 15, may participate in the TMDSAS match process to be eligible for acceptance into an MD or DO only program at participating medical schools. To participate in the match, the applicant must have submitted an application to TMDSAS and have been interviewed at the respective medical school.

These applicants, even if accepted into any MD or DO only program, may still be accepted into a combined MD/PhD or DO/PhD program at any participating school should an offer be extended before the beginning of orientation at each medical school.

    Policies Regarding Acceptance

The Professional School Committee on Admissions

Each professional school has an Admissions Committee which is responsible for the evaluation of students admitted to its program. The committee members, appointed from the faculty, review all applications. They then recommend for acceptance those applicants who best meet the established admissions criteria. All actions on admission to a professional program are the prerogative of the Admissions Committee of each professional school. Questions concerning admission decisions should be directed to the medical school concerned.

    Transcripts Following Acceptance

TMDSAS maintains the records of accepted applicants. Therefore, official transcripts for course work taken subsequent to acceptance up to matriculation must be sent to TMDSAS at the end of each semester that course work is taken. Applicants who are accepted and plan to enroll in medical school will also be required to submit a complete set of transcripts to the school at which they plan to enroll. These transcripts must include all courses taken prior to enrollment. TMDSAS does not reproduce transcripts for the schools.
