In 2013, The University of Texas System leadership moved forward with a bold, transformational plan to create a new university in South Texas—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. UTRGV will open its doors in the fall of 2015 as a single institution that spans the entire Rio Grande Valley, with a presence in each of the major metropolitan areas of Brownsville, Edinburg, Harlingen and McAllen. The new university, which is eligible for funding from the Permanent University Fund, will also be home to a school of medicine.
The new university began as an initiative called Project South Texas. Watch the video to learn more.
