What is an endowment?
An endowment is a fund created with gifts received from a donor with the restriction that the principal is not expendable. The gifts are invested in perpetuity and only the distributions are expended for the purposes designated by the donor.
What is the minimum amount needed to start an endowment at the UT System?
$10,000. You may take up to five years to establish an endowment. Endowments may be funded with at least 20 percent of the funding total (e.g., for a $10,000 endowment, $2,000 must be received) and a signed endowment agreement. Can I make a gift of securities (e.g., stock, bonds, IRAs)?

What is a bequest?
