Chancellor Cigarroa and President Bailey to hold Q&A sessions at UTB and UTPA

UT MD Anderson’s Lynda Chin named Chancellor’s Health Fellow

AUSTIN – Lynda Chin, M.D., chair of Genomic Medicine at UT MD Anderson, has been named a University of Texas System Chancellor’s Health Fellow to coordinate the planning and development of a collaborative effort in the use of technologies and big data to improve healthcare delivery, focusing on management of diabetes in South Texas.

Powell, Cigarroa and Garcia honored during UTB celebration

Juliet Garcia to head new UT Institute of the Americas

UTRGV Smart Hospital to be dedicated Wednesday

Medical and academic leaders from The University of Texas System and across the Rio Grande Valley will gather Wednesday (May 28) for the dedication and unveiling of the UT Rio Grande Valley Smart Hospital.

Occupying 15,000 square feet of the Academic and Clinical Research Building on the Harlingen RAHC campus, the UTRGV Smart Hospital is designed to bring together current and future doctors, nurses and allied health professionals from across the Rio Grande Valley to experience high quality, realistic clinical simulation.

UT System Regents officially select first president of UT Rio Grande Valley

AUSTIN – The University Of Texas System Board Of Regents on Tuesday formally named Guy Bailey the first president of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Regents named Bailey, the former president of Texas Tech University, the sole finalist on April 28 but under state law had to wait 21 days before making the appointment. His first day on the job will be June 15.

Regents keep plan to establish UTRGV moving forward

AUSTIN – The University of Texas System Board of Regents voted Thursday on its first official action to consolidate programs at UT Brownsville and UT Pan American in order to establish a new institution, UT Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV).

The Regents approved three significant items: degree programs to be offered at UTRGV; a process to hire tenure and tenure-track faculty from UT Brownsville and UT Pan American; and the allocation of up to $5 million to fund critical communications efforts to help launch UTRGV.
