UT System Academy of Distinguished Teachers inducts inaugural class

Academy of Distinguished TeachersTwelve outstanding educators were inducted into the inaugural class of The University of Texas System Academy of Distinguished Teachers Tuesday night.

The Academy of Distinguished Teachers was created to recognize outstanding educators at UT’s nine academic institutions. Members of the Academy will serve as a System-level advocacy group dedicated to enhancing teaching, fostering innovation in the classroom, and promoting interdisciplinary perspectives on education.

“Great teachers are so critical to the success of students, and we are fortunate that the best teachers in the world work for University of Texas institutions,” said Dr. Pedro Reyes, executive vice chancellor for academic affairs. “The Academy honors the best of the best and recognizes educators who are leaders in their field and who are committed to improving teaching across the UT System.”

The 2013 inductees to the Academy of Distinguished Teachers are:

  • Beth Brunk-Chavez, Ph.D., The University of Texas at El Paso
  • Mary Lynn Crow, Ph.D., The University of Texas at Arlington
  • John A. Daly, Ph.D., The University of Texas at Austin
  • Patrick J. Davis, Ph.D., The University of Texas at Austin
  • Sheila Amin Gutiérrez de Piñeres, Ph.D., The University of Texas at Dallas
  • Brent L. Iverson, Ph.D., The University of Texas at Austin
  • Robert A. Prentice, J.D., The University of Texas at Austin
  • Catherine E. Ross, Ph.D., The University of Texas at Tyler
  • David J. Silva, Ph.D., The University of Texas at Arlington
  • John W. Sibert, Ph.D., The University of Texas at Dallas
  • Michael Starbird, Ph.D., The University of Texas at Austin
  • James W. Vick, Ph.D., The University of Texas at Austin

Members of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers will meet in the coming year to plan future activities of the Academy.
