UT System Regents' Task Force on UTMB Clinical Operations Public Hearing Scheduled Feb. 20

AUSTIN – The special task force established by The University of Texas System Board of Regents to hear public comments on clinical operations of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston will hold its public hearing on Friday, Feb. 20.

The public hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Galveston at the Moody Gardens Convention Center, Expo A, first floor, located at Seven Hope Boulevard. Parking will be available at the convention center. The hearing will also be webcast. A live stream of the webcast will be shown in Levin Hall on the UTMB campus.

The session is expected to last approximately three hours, adjourning at 12:30 p.m. The sole purpose of the public hearing is for the task force to receive feedback on the Kurt Salmon Associates report released last week at a Board of Regents meeting in Austin. The report may be viewed here.

Individuals interested in addressing the task force regarding the recommendations developed by Kurt Salmon Associates must register in writing no later than Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. To register, please send your name and contact information to the task force e-mail address (taskforce@utsystem.edu). 

Speakers are asked to limit their remarks to 3 minutes to allow the broadest number of individuals the ability to address the task force. Comment cards will also be available at the public hearing. Individuals may also submit feedback on the report to the task force e-mail address. Written comments will be submitted to the task force.

The task force members include Regents’ Vice Chairman James R. Huffines of Austin, Regent Colleen McHugh of Corpus Christi, Regent Janiece Longoria of Houston, and Regent Paul Foster of El Paso. The task force will be chaired by Regent McHugh, who is chairman of the Board’s Health Affairs Committee.
