UT System Seeking Applicants for Student Regent Position

AUSTIN – The University of Texas System is currently seeking applicants for the student regent position on the UT System Board of Regents. The term for the position runs from June 1, 2009 to May 31, 2010.

The nonvoting student regent is an ex-officio member on each Board committee.  In addition to participating in approximately a dozen official Board meetings over the course of the appointment, the student regent frequently visits with student leaders, administrators, faculty and staff at the 15 UT institutions across the state. 

In 2005, the 79th Texas Legislature authorized the Governor to appoint a nonvoting student regent for each public university or university system.

Applicants, who must be enrolled at UT System institutions and in good academic standing, are required to fill out the  UT System Application for Student Regent  and the  Office of The Governor Appointment Application , which must be submitted to the institution's student government organization. Each student government organization will choose up to five applicants; the campus presidents will submit the applicants to the UT System chancellor by no later than December 15, 2008.  

The chancellor will recommend two or more applicants to the governor, who ultimately makes the formal appointment.
