Regents to Meet in Dallas October 11-12

The Board of Regents of The University of Texas System will hold an academic retreat and special called meeting in Dallas on Monday, October 11 and Tuesday, October 12. The retreat and full meeting of the board will be held at The Westin Galleria Hotel, 13340 Dallas Parkway.

 

The academic retreat will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday and includes the following agenda items:

  • Discussion of improving graduation rates and the use of incentives
  • Discussion of hiring, developing, and deploying the academic labor force

The retreat will recess on Monday at approximately 4:30 p.m. The Santa Rita Award reception and dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the Eugene McDermott Library located on the UT Dallas campus, 800 West Campbell Road.

 

The meeting of the full board will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and includes a discussion in executive session of the possible naming of a finalist or finalists for the presidency of UT Dallas. State law requires that names of finalists for a university presidency be made public at least 21 days before regents vote on the appointment. Legal issues relating to the disclosure of private investment information will also be discussed in executive session. The meeting will also include consideration of a resolution approving the proposed acquisition of Zale Lipshy and St. Paul University hospitals.

 

The meeting of the board will adjourn at approximately 10 a.m. and the academic retreat will resume with the following agenda items:

  • Discussion on accommodating growth
  • Transforming the commuter campus
  • The future of graduate education
  • Implementation of the Washington Advisory Group report
  • Developing campus performance targets

Reporters wishing to attend the open session portions of the meeting and retreat may do so in the Governor's Room on the 21st floor of The Westin Galleria Hotel Dallas. Parking for the news media will be available at the hotel.
