News Conference: Three state university systems to announce collaborative effort to improve the preparation of teachers

The Texas A&M University System, the Texas State University System, and the University of Texas System will hold a news conference on Tuesday, March 18, 2003, to announce a $2.9 million grant from Houston Endowment Inc. to enhance teacher education at the state's universities.

The news conference will be at 3 p.m. in the Agriculture Museum, Room 1W.14, in the Texas State Capitol.

TAMU System Chancellor Howard Graves, TSUS Chancellor Lamar G. Urbanovsky, and U.T. System Chancellor Mark G. Yudof will sign a memorandum of understanding as requested by Houston Endowment to establish the intersystem Center for Research, Evaluation and Advancement of Teacher Education.

The center will promote research on the education of teachers, sponsor research fellowships, disseminate research findings, and undertake other activities to help institutions develop more effective teacher preparation programs.
