Due to recent changes in federal regulations, beginning on April 1, 2013, merchants may choose to process flexible spending account card purchases as "debit" transactions, which require a Personal Identification Number (PIN), rather than processing your UT FLEX account purchases as credit card transactions as they have in the past.
UT FLEX participants who have a PayFlex card will need to obtain a PIN to use the card at merchants who choose to process transactions as a debit rather than as a credit. PayFlex has provided a list of Frequently Asked Questions about this change, which includes information about how to get a PIN, what to do if you forget your PIN, what to do if you have more than one PayFlex Card, and more.
Please note: PayFlex cards on file at Express Scripts (to pay for mail order prescriptions) will continue to be processed as credit card transactions against the available balance. Therefore, a PIN is not required to obtain your prescription medications through the Express Scripts mail order system. However, other merchants, including retail pharmacies, physician offices, dental offices, etc., may require your UT FLEX transaction to be processed as a "debit." A PIN will be required to complete transactions being processed as debits.
If you have additional questions about a PIN being required for some UT FLEX debit card transactions beginning on April 1, 2013, or about your UT FLEX account, please contact PayFlex Customer Service at (866) 887-3539.
This year's flu season hit early and continues to hit hard, and although the season may have peaked it will typically last into March. If you haven't had a chance to get your flu vaccination, there's still time. To make flu vaccines more accessible, UT SELECT offers two options for flu vaccination coverage:
- Under the UT SELECT medical plan flu shots and nasal flu mist are covered 100% when services are received from a participating Blue Cross Blue Shield provider.
- The UT SELECT prescription drug plan covers the full cost of the vaccine at retail pharmacies that participate in the Express Scripts (formerly Medco) network. To find a retail pharmacy where you can get the vaccine, call Express Scripts customer service at 1-800-818-0155 or visit the Express Scripts website. You must present your UT SELECT/Express Scripts (Medco) prescription card for 100% coverage of the flu vaccine. A prescription is NOT required and the vaccine is not subject to the prescription plan deductible. If you present your UT SELECT/Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) medical ID card to the pharmacy, the pharmacy will require payment and you will need to submit a paper claim to BCBS for reimbursement.
If you have already received your flu shot at a network retail pharmacy and paid out of pocket, you may submit a paper claim along with your itemized receipt to BCBS to receive reimbursement. Download the BCBS medical claim form.

You will continue to receive the medications you need without changes to your plan or network.
