James Spaniolo was appointed president of U. T. Arlington in February 2004.
Prior to his appointed, he served as dean of Michigan State 's College of
Communication Arts and Sciences from 1996-2003. Before that he was vice
president and chief program officer of the John S. and James L. Knight
Foundation. Spaniolo holds a bachelor's degree from Michigan State;
a master's of public administration from the University of Michigan;
and a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. He serves
on the advisory board of the Knight Foundation and on the accrediting
committee of the Accrediting Council on Education and Journalism and
Mass Communication. He is a member of the Florida Bar Association and
has been admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the 5th
and 11th U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals and the U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of Florida.

William C. Powers Jr., is the 28th president of The University of Texas
at Austin. Before taking office on February 1, 2006, he served as dean of
the university's School of Law, where he won recognition for recruiting a
world-class faculty and attracting highly diverse and talented students.
One of the nation's leading scholars in personal injury and products
liability, Powers joined the law school faculty in 1977 and has taught
torts, products liability, jurisprudence, legal process, civil procedure,
conflict of laws and contracts. In 1997, the university named him to its
Academy of Distinguished Teachers. He is a University Distinguished Teaching
Professor and holds the Hines H. Baker and Thelma Kelley Baker Chair in Law.

Dr. Juliet V. García became president of UT Brownsville in 1992.
Previously and since 1976, she was at Texas Southmost College,
serving as dean of arts and sciences from 1981-1986 and president
beginning in 1986. She has nearly 30 years of teaching and
administrative experience in higher education. García received her
B.A. and M.A. degrees in speech/English from the University of
Houston, and her Ph.D. in communications and linguistics from UT
Austin.

Dr. David E. Daniel was named president of UT Dallas in June 2005.
Previously, he was dean of the College of Engineering, University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Daniel, a civil engineer who received a
Ph.D. from UT Austin, joined the engineering faculty there in 1980.
In 1996 he moved to the University of Illinois. He was named
engineering dean at Illinois in 2001. Daniel has won the American
Society of Civil Engineers highest award for papers published in its
journals and in 2000 was elected to the National Academy of Engineering.

Dr. Diana S. Natalicio was named president of UT El Paso in 1988, after
serving one year as interim president. She has been at UTEP since 1971 and
served previously as faculty member, department chairman, dean, and vice
president for academic affairs. She is a professor of languages and linguistics.
Natalicio received her Ph.D. degree in linguistics from UT Austin.

Charles A. Sorber is Professor Emeritus, Department of Civil, Architectural
and Environmental Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin. He
earned his B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Sanitary Engineering at the Pennsylvania
State University and his doctoral degree at The University of Texas at
Austin. He began his professional career with the U.S. Army, serving in a
number of positions in Europe, with the U.S. Army Environmental Hygiene
Agency, and with the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command.

Dr. W. David Watts was named president of UT Permian Basin in February 2001 and
took office in early summer 2001. Watts was formerly the vice president for academic
and student affairs at Jacksonville State University in Alabama since 1996. Prior to
that, he was dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of sociology at
Southeastern Louisiana University, a faculty member at Southwest Texas State
University in San Marcos, and a faculty member at Ohio University. Watts earned a
bachelor’s degree in sociology and English from UT Austin and earned a master’s
degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Dr. Ricardo Romo was named president of UT San Antonio on February 10, 1999. P
reviously, he served as vice provost for undergraduate education at UT
Austin since 1993. A historian who has written extensively on the history of
Mexican-Americans and in the field of Chicano studies, Romo holds a Ph.D. from
UCLA, a master’s degree from Loyola University in Los Angeles, and a bachelor’s
degree from UT Austin.

Dr. Rodney H. Mabry was appointed president of UT Tyler in March 1998.
Previously, he was dean of business administration at the University of
Tulsa. He also has served on the faculties at Clemson University and
Northeast Louisiana University. Mabry earned a bachelor’s degree in
commerce from the University of Kentucky and a doctorate in economics
from the University of North Carolina.
