Mission

The mission of the UT System Administration Office of Academic Affairs is to lead and serve our nine academic institutions to create and sustain excellence in educational opportunities, research and health care.

The role of the Office of Academic Affairs is to add value on behalf of the UT academic institutions by undertaking certain central responsibilities that result in greater efficiency or higher quality than could be achieved by individual institutions or that fulfill legal requirements.

The Office of Academic Affairs facilitates achievement of member institution goals, serves as the agent of the UT Board of Regents, provides oversight of and assistance for institution operations and exerts leadership on national and state higher education policies.

Specifically, the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) is responsible for the programs of the UT System related to academic affairs, and provides coordination and support for the nine general academic institutions in the UT System. Through the presidents of the member institutions, the Academic Affairs Office has responsibility for academic planning and programs, budgets, facilities planning and construction, and personnel (both academic and non-academic) of those institutions. The Office of Academic Affairs and its nine institutions share a mission of education, teaching, research, and community service.

In addition to the nine brick and mortar academic institutions, the Office of Academic Affairs has oversight for online instruction delivered by the UT TeleCampus.
