REGENT JANIECE LONGORIA

Regent Longoria JANIECE LONGORIA of Houston was appointed to The University of Texas System Board of Regents by Governor Rick Perry on February 1, 2008. She replaces Mr. Robert A. Estrada of Fort Worth with a term to expire on February 1, 2011.


Regent Longoria chairs the Academic Affairs Committee and serves as a member of the Audit, Compliance, and Management Review Committee as well as the Health Affairs Committee. In addition, she is a member of The University of Texas Investment Management Company (UTIMCO) Board of Directors as well as the M. D. Anderson Services Corporation Board of Directors. Also, Regent Longoria is a member of the Special Advisory Committee on the Brackenridge Tract that was created in August 2009. She previously served on the Task Force on UTMB Clinical Operations.


Ms. Longoria is a partner in the firm of Ogden, Gibson, Broocks & Longoria, L.L.P., where she practices law in the area of commercial litigation, with a concentration of experience in securities litigation, and securities arbitration. She has significant experience in arbitrating cases before the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (NASD), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), and the American Arbitration Association (AAA), and in representing broker-dealers and associated persons in regulatory proceedings before the Securities Exchange Commission, the NYSE, FINRA, and the Texas Securities Board. She is a member of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section and Litigation Section, the State Bar of Texas, and is a Fellow of the Houston Bar Association and Houston Bar Foundation. She is a member of the Legal and Compliance Division of the Securities Industry Association and has been a frequent contributor to the annual broker-dealer survey of litigation published by the SIA. Her commercial litigation experience also includes representation of clients in the energy industry. She has been named a Texas Super Lawyer for 2005, 2006, and 2007.


She also serves on the Board of Directors of CenterPoint Energy, Inc., the third largest publicly traded natural gas delivery company in the U.S. and the provider of electricity transmission and distribution service for the Houston metropolitan area and natural gas distribution service in Arkansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas. As a member of the board of directors, she serves on CenterPoint Energy's audit and finance committees.


She also serves as one of seven Commissioners for the Port of Houston Authority, the world's 10th largest port. Appointed by the Mayor and City Council of Houston in 2002, and reappointed in 2004 and 2006, she is the chair of the International Business Development Task Force. She is the former chair of the Pension Committee. She also serves on the Small Business Development Task Force to help lead efforts to increase small business participation on Port projects. She is also a member of the Community Relations Task Force and helps lead efforts to strengthen relationships with political and community stakeholders and assure responsible environmental stewardship.


In January 2002, she was elected a member of the Board of Directors of Greater Houston Partnership, the Greater Houston region’s leading chamber of commerce. She has served on the board of the Greater Houston Partnership International Trade Division and on the Transportation Infrastructure Committee. She is also a member of the Executive Women’s Partnership, a division of the Greater Houston Partnership. She also serves on the Boards of Directors of numerous charitable organizations.


She has been selected by Direct Women, an initiative of the American Bar Association, the ABA Section of Business Law and Catalyst, Inc., as a recipient of the 2008 Sandra Day O'Connor Board Excellence Award.


She is an honors graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, and received her J.D. from the U. T. Austin School of Law. She is also a Founder of the Center for Women in Law at The University of Texas School of Law.
